So Your Back Hurts... Let

I see a lot of people with chronic back pain. They've usually done everything—PT, massage, chiropractic, core exercises, better chairs. And their back still hurts.

So here's what I've learned: usually, it's not actually a back problem.

I know that sounds weird. But let me walk you through what's usually happening.

The Chain That Ends in Back Pain

Your body is an integrated system. Everything connects. So when one area isn't working, other areas have to compensate.

Here's a really common pattern:

You sit most of the day. Your hip flexors get tight. That pulls your pelvis into a forward tilt. Now your low back has to support you in a position it wasn't designed for. That's one problem.

At the same time, your glute max—the big muscle that's supposed to stabilize your pelvis—it's not firing anymore because you're sitting. So your low back muscles are working overtime to do a job they're not built for.

And then there's breathing. When you sit, your diaphragm gets compressed. Your breathing becomes shallow and chest-based. Without proper diaphragmatic breathing, your deep core can't activate. Your spine loses its deepest layer of support.

So your low back is trying to do the job of three things at once: stabilize your pelvis, support your spine, and maintain your posture. No wonder it hurts.

Why Standard Back Exercises Don't Always Fix It

You might do back strengthening exercises. And they help. For a while. But if your hip flexors stay tight, if your glutes stay inhibited, if your breathing stays dysfunctional, your low back keeps having to compensate.

You're treating the symptom, not the cause.

What Actually Fixes It

So here's what needs to happen:

First, we assess. We look at your hips, your breathing, your posture, how you actually move. We trace backward to find where the chain actually broke.

Then we release the tight muscles that started the whole cascade. Usually hip flexors. Sometimes calves, sometimes chest muscles. Depends on your pattern.

Then we activate the weak muscles that can't do their job anymore. Usually your glutes. Sometimes your deep core. We teach your nervous system to use these muscles again.

Then we teach better breathing, better posture, better movement habits that won't recreate the problem.

And then you practice at home. This is the part that actually makes it stick. Five minutes daily of the right things beats months of gym work that misses the point.

What Happens When We Get the Whole Picture Right

I have clients who come in with years of back pain. They're skeptical because they've tried everything. And then, as we work through this systematically, something shifts. The pain that's been part of their daily life starts to ease.

Not overnight. But steadily.

Because now we're finally addressing what's actually wrong.
